Class 6KA performed an assembly about Harvest where we learnt about the importance of it and what it involves.

Harvest is a festival celebrated by many people in the world. A fun fact about harvest is that the word is derived from the old English word hoerfest, meaning autumn, the time when food was gathered in from the land. Harvest is the process of collecting plants, animals, or fish.

Harvest festival is traditionally celebrated on a Sunday nearest the harvest moon. Harvest festivals are held in September or October depending on the local tradition.

In Britain, harvest festivals are often celebrated in churches by bringing baskets of food to give thanks to God. People enjoy singing, praying, listening to stories and decorating the church. Congregations give thanks for the grain and other harvest “safely gathered in”, for food for the year and especially for enough to eat for coming hard times in winter. When a crop has grown and is ready to eat, the farmer must collect it from the fields.

In our school, we are also collecting donations for the local foodbank.
